Upload is the path from your device to the Internet. It is different from download, which is the other way around and used to retrieve the video to watch. Most of the time, upload sits idle - unless you run a visio or play a video game at the same time. Quanteec taps into it.
Peer-to-peer works by making enabled devices act as video data re-streamers. While you watch, your device performs additional actions than just displaying the video in order to forward the stream to nearby viewers. This requires some extra power - and battery, if on mobile device.
On your disk: nothing is stored, nothing is accessed.
On air only: re-streaming happens only while you are watching and it stops when the app/site is closed.
On safety: the stream cannot be altered or corrupted.
On control: clients are strongly recommended to expose a clear ON/OFF toggle to the viewers for full control over their devices.
On your data: full RGPD-compliance, we know nothing about you.
We do not sell the capacity provided by viewers’ devices.
We sell a service to enable proper connections and re-streaming between users’ devices. Our principle enables cost savings and we encourage this model to be promoted down to the viewers towards the release of more engagement.

Re-streaming from a device only exploits the upload bandwidth when it is free: free of use and free of charge.
Other services who need the upload bandwidth are prioritized.
Re-streaming is deactivated by default on devices over cellular networks.
Re-streaming from any device (smartphone, TV, laptops, etc.) uses at maximum 3% of CPU and consumes less than 0.1 Wh per GB sent*. If permanently activated, it would cost you 0.01€ per year in your electricity bill.
In terms of battery consumption, the maximum impact measured is 0.40% per GB sent*. Additionally, if your battery drops below 10%, re-streaming stops.
Viewer experience: when audiences surge, peers nearby shorten time-to-first-byte, raise average quality, and make rebuffering vanish compared to viewers served by CDN-only.
